Here we provide a brief eyewitness account of the November 4 demonstrations in Tehran sent by activists involved in the the events.
On November 4 2009 (13 Aban 1388) the Iranian regime held demonstrations commemorating the thirtieth anniversary of the US embassy seizure. In spite of mobilising even more security forces than before, tens of thousands turned out to demonstrate against the fundamentalist faction - and in some cases, the whole Islamic regime - in Tehran.

On Monday November 2 the bakers of Sanandaj, in Iranian Kurdistan, won a pay rise. After their several meetings and ongoing correspondence with the Governor’s Office and other Sanandaj authorities over higher wages had no result, the bakers of Sanandaj finally announced a three-hour strike on November 2.

The ideas of Socialism and Marxism are gaining an echo in Ireland at the present time. There's a clear reason for that: capitalism is in a severe crisis and the ideas of the bourgeois and of the “social partnership” and reformism don’t answer the problems and the worries of working people. James Connolly’s name has been used and abused by all shades of political opinion in Ireland. We make no apology for reprinting articles that are, like this one, a century old. The same old problems need the same solutions. Connolly’s ideas are as fresh today as they were in 1909.

A lot of noise had been made about the so-called “reinstatement of Zelaya”, but is that what is really happening. So far a lot of wheeling and dealing has taken place, but no concrete steps to put Zelaya back as the legitimate president. We will see in the coming days how real this agreement is.

From Dublin to Galway, Cork to Dundalk, and in Waterford, Sligo, Tullamore and Limerick, thousands of Civil Servants, Teachers and Local Government workers are marching against the Governments attacks. The demonstrations will give a clear signal to Cowen and Lenihan that if they want to attack our wages and our jobs and services then they will have hundreds of thousands of angry workers and their families to deal with. Its never a good idea to attack all your enemies at once.
